Inaugural Ceremony of PGCM Geospatial Technology held

Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) organized an Inaugural Ceremony of its Post Graduate Certificate in Management (PGCM) Geospatial Technology Applications in Rural Development on the campus on 18 June 2025. This AICTE-approved course on Geographic Information System (GIS) has a batch of 27 students from across the country.

Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, Director, XISS welcomed the students at the ceremony and said that GIS and Remote Sensing are gaining immense popularity in modern times and today almost all government departments use GIS extensively and this is opening several career opportunities that are not only extensive but also highly rewarding.

Dr Amar Tigga, Dean Academics, XISS motivated the new batch and said that the scope of this field is enormous. He mentioned that many of the students come from diverse and interior regions, which reinstates XISS’s motive to give back to society by making rural youth employable.

Meanwhile, Dr Prakash Chandra Dash, Coordinator, GIS Course discussed the wider application of this course in various areas. He shared the past placement records of the students and the increase in demand of experts on this course. Mr Sunil Pratap Kumar, Research Assistant, Geoinformatics Training Programme along with students were present during the event.
