About Us

We are a team of professional counsellors and faculty advisors to assist you emotionally and academically, to be happy, grow, explore yourself and realise your dreams.

The Counselling Centre is an on-campus counselling facility available to students, faculty, and staff at Xavier Institute of Social Service, Ranchi. The Centre provides a space for self-realization, self-exploration and to address psychological concerns leading to personal, social, and professional growth. The Centre intends to create a space for sharing, learning, living together, growing, and promoting happiness, wellbeing, and diversity.

Student Health and Wellbeing

Counselling is a talking and listening process that helps to focus on and understand the concerns that are troubling you. You may find it helpful to talk to a friend, family member, tutor, supervisor, or a doctor – often problems can be resolved by talking to them. Nevertheless, if you need professional help, you are welcome to try the Counselling Service for confidential help and advice. There are times when it may be right to seek help away from the familiar daily environment and the Counselling Service is set up to meet just such a need.

What happens in counselling?

Counselling is not the same as giving advice. Rather, a counsellor seeks to help you to focus on and understand more clearly the issues that concern you. By respecting your own values, choices and lifestyle, the counsellor can work together with you towards making choices or changes that are right for you. Counselling sessions take place in a comfortable and private setting and are usually for 30 to 50 minutes.

Ethics and confidentiality

We respect confidentiality. Your personal details and the content of all counselling sessions will not be disclosed. Under all normal circumstances, nothing will be revealed to anyone outside the Service without your express permission. Information shared during the sessions will not be used for any academic or placement purposes.

Cost

The services offered are free of cost to all registered programme participants at the Institute and members of the staff and faculty. Students requiring medical/psychiatric help and support must bear the expenses. The Counselling Centre and resource meant only for members of the XISS community. It is not open for public access.
