Expert Talk by Prof Pramod Pathak on "Life Skills to Cope with Challenges of Professional Career"
On 29 June 2026, the Programme of Marketing Management and the Programme of Financial Management at Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi jointly organized an insightful expert talk on "Life Skills to Cope with Challenges of Professional Career." The session was delivered by Prof Pramod Pathak, Former Professor and Head of Department of Management Studies, IIT-ISM Dhanbad.
The event was attended by Dean Academics, Dr Amar Tigga, Heads of Programmes, Dr Ratnesh Chaturvedi, Dr Bhabani Prasad Mahapatra, along with faculty members, and students of both programmes. In his address, Prof Pathak emphasized that stress is primarily influenced by our mindset rather than external circumstances. He explained the concepts of perceived imbalance and perceived important consequences, highlighting how our interpretation of situations often determines the level of stress we experience. He encouraged students to strengthen their own thought processes instead of becoming overly dependent on Artificial Intelligence, stressing the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between technology and human thinking.
The session also underscored the significance of listening, observation, mindfulness, and effective time management as essential life skills for personal and professional success. Prof Pathak discussed the importance of analyzing relevant information from the overwhelming abundance of available data and explained the differences between neutral information, misinformation, and disinformation, encouraging students to think critically before accepting or sharing information. He also introduced the concept of psychosomatic diseases, illustrating the strong connection between mental well-being and physical health.
The interactive session concluded with an engaging discussion, leaving students with practical strategies to manage stress, develop resilience, and navigate the challenges of their professional careers with confidence and clarity.
