Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, in collaboration with the Indian Association of Women’s Studies (IAWS), Ranchi Centre, successfully organised a two-day workshop on research paper writing from 30^-31October 2023 in the campus. The objective of organizing this workshop was to enhance the academic and scientific writing skills in social science research among the doctoral students and faculty members from colleges across Jharkhand.

The workshop began with the inauguration session in the presence of the Director XISS, Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, Dean Academics, Dr Amar E. Tigga, Professor, Rural Management Programme, Dr K. K. Bhagat, and Dr Mamta Kumari from IAWS. Dr Kujur extended a warm welcome to all the participants and emphasized the workshop's significance from an academic perspective. He pressed upon key points during his speech, which included objectivity, authenticity, and originality of the research in changing time. He also put emphasis on the scientific rigour and passion for writing.

The workshop drew participants from various academic backgrounds offering them an invaluable opportunity to develop their expertise in the field of social science research and academic writing. This successful workshop was jointly coordinated by Dr Pramil Kumar Panda, Assistant Professor, Rural Management Programme, XISS and Dr Mamta Kumari, Coordinator, Women’s Studies Centre from IAWS.

The workshop featured interactive sessions, hands-on activities, and expert guidance from seasoned academicians in the field, providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the process of academic and scientific research writing. The workshop touched upon the methodological and philosophical paradigms in social science research, plagiarism and maintaining ethics in research, literature review, citation and referencing, gender and marginality on social science and mixed methods research and its applications. The resource persons who took these sessions were Dr Pramil K Panda, Dr Ranjana Srivastava, Associate Professor, Ranchi University, and representative of IAWS, Dr Ekata Bakshi and Ms Nirali Bakhla from Policy and Development Advisory Group.

The workshop ended with a valedictory session where Dean Academics, XISS, distributed participation certificates to all the participants of the workshop. XISS and IAWS expressed their appreciation for the active participation and enthusiasm of all the participants. The two institutions also committed to keep on organizing such workshops in the coming years where their collaboration can further reinforce their commitment for nurturing academic excellence and research in their respective domains.
