Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi under the aegis of Ranchi Jesuit Society has contributed Rs. 3,22,258.00 (Rupees Three lakhs twenty-two thousand two hundred and fifty-eight only) to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the State.
XISS has always been a part of the Social Service sector in its academics and student-related activities and during these unprecedented times, has taken charge of serving the needy and poor as the Ranchi Jesuit Society leads the way.
More than 90 XISS Faculty and Staff members have donated their salaries upto even 5 days (some for 4, 3, 2 days and 1 day also) towards the generation of the fund to be used in combating against the challenges faced by society during these trying times.
Under the aegis of Catholic Archdiocese of Ranchi, various charitable societies, and religious groups, have generously come forward to facilitate the relief works in the Shelter Homes determined by the District administration of Ranchi for the stranded migrant workers on the district borders in Muri, Khalari, Mandar, Tamar, Kanke, Hulhundu and Ormanjhi.
Taking active participation in this initiative, the institute had also earlier arranged for an orientation program for volunteers in its auditorium conducted by an official from the DC’s office.
XISS has helped out in procuring necessary items like buckets, bedsheets, plates, glasses, sleeping mats, mosquito nets etc. from local shops even during the lockdown with the help of local administration for three Shelter Homes, two in Tamar and one in Muri and is ensuring that these materials reach to the set-up of the home shelters at the earliest.
XISS Alumni along with some current students are actively engaged in providing support to the District Administration as they distribute food packets in the city and are also managing information and data compilation for the local administration. Also, they are participating in the Social Media campaigns initiated by the administration promoting the theme of social distancing, stay at home, work from home and maintaining hygiene and one’s safety during this lockdown amongst the residents of the city.
The XISS management feels that these are a very trying time for all of us and so the management is extending its help towards the State Government to fight the Coronavirus by volunteering their services as far as possible to the administration. Also, the management has said that together we can survive this crisis against humanity and have appealed everyone to stay at home and stay safe.
