On June 17, 2020, Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) Ranchi organized a welcome ceremony for its Incoming Director and thanks giving ceremony to Outgoing Director in the auditorium.
The ceremony was graced by Fr. Ajit Kumar Xess S.J., Provincial Ranchi Jesuit Society and Chairman Governing Body, XISS accompanied by Fr. Xavier Soreng S.J. Superior & Secretary of XISS; Fr. Pradeep Kerketta S.J., Assistant Director XISS; Dr. Fr. Joseph Marianus Kujur S.J., Director XISS; Dr. Amar E. Tigga, Outgoing Acting Director & Professor XISS and Fr. Raymond Kerketta S.J., Secretary Ranchi Jesuit Society. Along with them Head of all Programmes of XISS, Project Officers, Staff members, Dr. K T Lucas, Principal XIPT Ranchi and Mr. Jasbir Khurana, Vice Chairman AAXISS (Alumni Association) were also present during the ceremony.
The event began with an opening prayer by Fr. Soreng in which he sought the blessings of good health during these times by the Almighty on each of us. Fr. Pradeep in his welcome address extended a warm welcome to each one present in the event. He expressed his happiness on seeing all in good health and geared up for the next academic season. He also said that this pandemic and the lessons learnt from it have pushed us to move ahead in virtual academic proceedings for carrying forward the work.
In his address, Fr. Ajit Xess wished his happiness on seeing everyone present in good health conditions and prayed for the well-being of all. He thanked Dr. Amar Tigga for his able leadership and valuable services in the Acting Director chair for ten months. He also expressed thankfulness towards Dr. Fr. Joseph M. Kujur for agreeing on taking the new role of Director XISS after he completed his tenure as Provincial, Ranchi Jesuit Society. He said: “It has to be emphasized how XISS attends to the 3H’s followings of the Jesuit society namely head, heart and hand which make this Institute different from others in the country.” He also extended his support to the management of the Institute in taking the name to new glories in future.
The ceremony was followed by welcoming the guests on behalf of the Faculty by Dr. R. K. Agarwal, HoP Human Resource Management Programme who stated that experience and exemplary works of both our Chairman and Director will lead XISS to glory and greater heights. Ms. Aayurshi welcomed the guests on behalf of the Staff members of XISS and said that under the able leadership XISS will surely sail high on new laurels in days to come.
In his address, Dr. Amar Tigga thanked the Former Provincial Dr. Kujur for showing trust on him and bestowing him with the role of the Acting Director of XISS. He said: “The last ten months were challenging, but it became easy with everyone’s understanding as we all worked together as a team to take the Institute to greater heights. I learnt a lot from each one of you and tried my best to deliver as per the expectations of different stakeholders who have stood beside me as we have drawn plans to achieve greater heights in future. I am sure that under the aspiring leadership of Dr. Kujur we will now work with same dedication for the betterment of our Institute,” he concluded.
Dr. Joseph M Kujur while addressing the ceremony firstly congratulated the XISS Family for their positive and constructive efforts put in the COVID-19 activities during his tenure as the Provincial. He further said: “I have joined the Institute with an intention to be a good coordinator working alongside everybody as we realize the dreams of the Institute together. I thank Dr. Amar for agreeing on the role of Acting Director during the critical time and has shown his mettle with the decisions taken for the Institute.”
He further stressed on the priorities up his agenda and said: “The foremost is the NBA Accreditation for the Institute and we all together have to work in this direction. Secondly, a new campus for the Institute is up the priority list which is being discussed upon. Next, University status for the Institute is our long term goal which will be realized in coming days now. Also, providing counseling to employees and students to strive through these tough times is an agenda for the Institute.”
“We are now living in Covid -19 times where reimagining and reinventing ourselves and adaptation to new changes is mandatory. There is no space for complacency while we to have be more conscious of life and have a dialogue with nature, if we will to have a healthy lifestyle,” he said and concluded.
Prof. Mary Bodra in the vote of thanks, highlighted on the strength Provincial and Director instilled in everyone’s mind with their address and thanked Dr. Amar for his leadership. She also appreciated the efforts put in by the organizers of the program. Dr. Rajshree Verma along with Ms. Aditi Mehrotra and Ms. Koyel Mukherjee organized and conducted the ceremony smoothly.
