XISS pays heartfelt tribute to Pope Francis

On April 26, 2025, the faculty and staff of XISS Ranchi gathered to honor the life and legacy of Pope Francis in a solemn condolence meeting. The event was filled with prayers, hymns, and reflections on the profound impact he had on the world.

In his address to the gathering, Director, XISS, Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, shared his personal experience of meeting Pope Francis when he served as the Provincial of the Ranchi Jesuit Society. Dr Kujur discussed Pope’s teachings on compassion, equality, and the care for the marginalized as he recalled them with gratitude. He concluded saying that Pope Francis’s message of love and unity for all humanity transcended boundaries, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts.

Earlier, the ceremony opened with a reading of the New Testament by Assistant Director, Dr Pradeep Kerketta SJ– “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want,” reminding all, the Pope’s unwavering faith and his dedication to walking the path of love and humility.

A floral tribute by all present was given to the Pope while the XISS Choir performed several hymns, filling the room with a serene and reverent atmosphere. Mr Himalay from the Alumni Association of XISS, Ranchi Chapter was also present during this meeting.

The condolence meeting concluded with Fr Ashok Kandulna, Finance Officer reading the life of Pope Francis and urged all to emulate his life teachings. Several attendees also paid their respect to the Pope during the meeting. Dr Shyamal Gomes, Head, Programme of Human Resource Management, XISS coordinated the condolence meeting.
