The five day Diamond Jubilee Festivities celebration at XISS begun on 14th February,2017 with a theme of Sustainability. The entire campus in order to promote the theme of sustainability had been decorated with the help of reusable, recyclable and eco-friendly products like old papers, paper cups, old magazines, cardboard boxes.
Amidst the entire buzz, enthusiasm, preparation and planning the first event marathon marked the start of the celebration of sixty glorious years.
On the start of the event the Heads of the Department, Professors and the Director were all present. Reverent Father Alexius Ekka SJ inaugurated the event and motivated the students and highlighted the importance of sustainability and sustainable life. The students of St. Xavier’s College and Birla Institute of Technology also were a part of the marathon.
On the evening of the first day of the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee Festivities, a holy mass was organized. The esteemed guests for the mass were His Excellency T. Mascarenhas, SFX (Auxiliary bishop Ranchi Archdiocese and Secretary General CBCI, New Delhi) for “Breaking the Word”, Paul Tighe (Adjunct Secretary for Pontifical Council for Culture VATICAN CITY) and Telesphore P.Cardinal Toppo (Archbishop of Ranchi). The Chief Guest for the event was Dr. James F Stoner (Fordham University, USA) while the guest of honour was Dr. Frank Werner (Fordham University, USA).
The holy gathering was followed by a tribal extravaganza. Tribal dance, tribal songs and a tribal walk adorned the event. The tribal walk witnessed the students walking down the ramp adorning tribal outfits sponsored by Jharkraft, Jharkhand.
The academic sessions were divided into two main segments. The first part of which was the “International Conference on Management Education for Sustainable World” on 15th Feb 2017. It was inaugurated with a welcome speech by Dr. Fr. Alexius Ekka. SJ. Prof. James Stoner from Fordham University, USA was the keynote speaker of the event. Students from all departments presented their papers, each with a different theme while the third day witnessed paper presentations by the faculties of all the departments on 16th Feb, 2017 on the theme of “Leadership and Innovation for a Sustainable World” where Prof. Frank Werner from Fordham University, USA was the keynote speaker
After 2 days of academic oriented sessions at XISS, day 4 pumped in a lot of oomph and excitement with fun events galore. Events like Business Baazigar (developing a business plan and exhibiting their marketing skills where the winners met M.S. Dhoni), Scavengers (based on the theme of Beg, Borrow and Steal), Paintopia (Face Painting), Biochrome (Rangoli Making), Politicomania (political event), and Click-It Out (Photography) and Sur Sangram (Music Competition) were organised.
This five day long grand Celebration ended on 18th February 2017 with the Inaugural of Alumni Association of Xavier Institute of Social Service (AAXISS) during the day while the evening was adorned with the starry combination of cultural events, highlight being the Title of Mister and Miss Diamond Jubilee.
The entire faculty played monumental role under the lead of Rev. Fr. Alex Ekka SJ, Fr. Pradeep Kerketta, the Director and Assistant Director of XISS. College Clubs like Team Obscura which is the Media Club of XISS played the silent significant role while covering the whole event and promoting it on various platforms. They have been the most important link between the outside world and the college. Team Embark took the charge of Registrations. The Sustainability Drive launched by XCEED in partnership with Rotaract Club of XISS collected huge amount of clothes and waste materials which were utilised for decoration and would now be donated at various Service Centres of XISS and other places by Rotaract Club. XISS has created and made legendary professionals in the last 60 years and envisions to take it to further heights in the coming future.
