A Training COVID-19: Awareness cum Orientation Programme was organized in Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) for its academic & non-academic staff along with cleaning staff, drivers, and security personnel on Saturday. The speakers for the event were Dr. Atri Gangopadhyay, Consultant Medica Hospitals and Mr. Shankar Dutta, GM Hotel LeLac. The program began with observing a two-minute silence for our martyred soldiers in the Galwan Valley.
Dr. Fr. Joseph M Kujur S.J., Director XISS addressed everybody and said: “The constituted XISS Task Force Committee has come up with a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)/ Manual for XISS which is a document to be followed by one all. It consists of all safety manuals and procedures for safeguarding not only all employees but our frontline workers too. XISS from beginning of the lockdown period has stood for serving the people, be it shelter homes for the migrant workers or food packets for Hindpiri area, this institute has risen up to the situation.”
Meanwhile, Fr. Pradeep Kerketta S.J., Assistant Director XISS discussed the safety measures taken by the Institute including fogging of the campus, usage of chemical sanitizers, hand sanitizers, thermal scanning at entry gate and residential campus of the Institute. He sought suggestions from all on improving the sanitization methods ongoing in the college.
Furthermore, Dr. Anant Kumar, Joint Coordinator of the XISS Task Force Committee said: “We all have to fight this virus and not get scared of it, however keeping our old age family members and children safe from it.”
“We have to maintain three points, firstly social distancing, follow XISS SOP & Self-sanitization. Also, if anyone is facing any health problem, then inform the management or the XISS Task Force committee,” said Dr. Shyamal Gomes, Joint Coordinator of the XISS Task Force Committee.
As the program continued, key speaker Dr. Atri Gangopadhyay, Consultant Medica Hospitals discussed in detail the new essential commodities of the Corona Times, a mask and sanitizer. He further said: “This virus is only spreading through respiratory routes and does not float in the air, so one has to always wear a mask to cover these areas from infection. Always keep distance between two people and avoid touching face and nose.”
He also said that self-medication is dangerous and one should always take advice from a doctor.
“The hotels have always practiced safe health methods and now we are focusing on it even more. However, the common or public areas like door handles, elevator buttons, handrails and telephones should be cleaned regularly. Fogging of cars and rooms used commonly should be done to avoid any chances of infection. The fight against Corona is a long one and with few precautions we can be safe and win the fight against it,” said Mr.
Shankar Dutta, GM Hotel LeLac.
While concluding the event, Dr. Amar Tigga, Moderator of the event shared the Do’s & Dont’s for everyone and said: “This COVID-19 has affected us all in three ways, on our health; our finances & our psychological health. It is a difficult time but with our self-precautions and safety measures taken by the Institute, we shall pass this time too. However, if anyone is feeling under the weather, they should inform the management and take rest while distancing themselves from others. Also, carry your own mask, sanitizers,
food, water and towels. And regularly use handwash, reduce the use of elevator and also follow the manual.”
The program concluded with the vote of thanks from Dr. Rajshree Verma, who summed
up the entire discussion and motivated one and all to stay safe and stay healthy.
