A Trip Down the Memory Lane

Nostalgia ’09 hosted a multitude of programs which ranged from speeches by the distinguished alumni to trekking and picnic, various dance presentations to skits which was reminiscent of their good old days.

Words from Alumni about Nostalgia '09.....

“I always knew I would look back on my tears and laugh but I never thought I would look back on laughter and cry…”.

“The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again” and so our alumni parted only to meet once again.

Every two years, as November nears,
      An announcement arrives in the mail,
We'd live the life we choose
      We'd fight and never lose
"A reunion is planned; it'll be really grand;
      Make plans to attend without fail."

Established in 1955, Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) was originally an extension department of St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi. XISS was created with the objective of training young men and women in Rural Development, Personnel Management and Industrial Relations, creating bare-foot managers, the professionals with a difference. In the year 1973 XISS got registered as a separate educational society (under the Societies Registration Act, 1860), and moved to its present location in the year 1978. Over the years, the institute has developed its own distinct identity, as a centre of excellence. XISS has stood the test of time, continuously being ranked among the top notch B- Schools in the country. The Institute has created a niche for itself in the field of Management-Education & Research, Consultancy and Development Interventions.
Right from its inception, XISS has given to the world a pool of management graduates with exceptional caliber and skill. Even a rough calculation reveals that ever since its inception this Institute has produced more than 3000 HR Professionals so far. Over years, the alumni of XISS have spread their roots not only in India but across the globe, occupying top notch positions in various corporate and non-corporate entities. XISS not only creates professionals, but creates “professionals with a difference” who are not only an asset to their organizations but also the society at large. The alumni of XISS have indeed done their alma-mater proud by excelling as Professionals, Business leaders, Entrepreneurs, Change agents for society, Academicians, Administrators and above all, appreciated and treasured folks.

It is a land of lost content,
That I see shining plain;
The happy highways where I went,
I wish that time could come again.

For us, the best time is always yesterday, for the heart wants what it wants, and there’s no logic to those things. As much as we are a product of our brain, we are also equally a product of our emotions. College definitely happens to be one of the best epochs of our lives, and for some of us, probably the most preeminent one. We learn we grow; we come in as boys and grow out as men. As time passes by, we get immersed into our every day lives. Yet, we yearn for the good old days, recalling those beautiful moments whenever and wherever we can. Once in a while, we surprisingly bump into an old college buddy, at one of our professional rendezvous, or just get to know from a common friend, about someone you couldn’t stay in touch with after college. On all these moments, how quickly time seems to pass by; we wish we could make it linger a bit, or may be even make it stop. Take that time and join the old gang; have fun, make merry, laugh, may be break into a jig without caring if the world notices. But, time waits for none; all we are left with is a few spurs of nostalgia. Yes, Nostalgia; which is indeed the best grammar lesson, with the present-tense and the past perfect.
