Operation Research :
Operation Research has been defined as “the use of analytical techniques to define optimal processes of delivery, achieve better outcomes through evidence-based approaches, and provide more cost-effective care” (WHO, 2006; US Institute of Medicine, 2005).

It is an analytical method of problem-solving and decision making which can be used to find a solution to a problem in a real-world environment to improve the efficiency.(Fisher et al, 2002).

Operation Research in context of HIV AIDS:

  • to provide better, cost effective solutions, intervention and coverage
  • to address and identify the gaps in the programme implementation and interventions
  • to identify solutions to problems that limit program quality, efficiency and effectiveness
  • focuses on factors which are under the control of programs.
  • helps in determining the alternative service delivery strategy for best outcomes.
  • Provides information to decision-makers to improve the programme performance.
